On a farm in Russia lives Maruska, a little girl, who lives with her mother. They both are very poor and have little money, so Maruska's mother sends her daughter to go to the market to buy mushrooms with their last ruble. On the way, in the woods, Maruska loses the ruble, and because she was bad Baba Yaga appears and kidnaps her. In her hut, Maruska meets a bunny who learned that Baba Yaga had turned them into a bunny and really are a royal guard to the Empress of Russia. Now they both must escape the evil Baba Yaga.
